This is exactly what is says it is and applies to any new website we build, or existing WordPress sites that are moved to our server (conditions and one-off migration fee apply to existing sites).
Now it might look like we’re being disruptive in the NZ web industry by offering free hosting when we could easily be charging for it like everyone else. However, what you probably don’t know is hosting itself is very cheap.
For instance, if you had a Growbig server at Siteground it would cost you US$240 per year, and you might fit 70 small business websites on that, so it’s only NZ$5 every 12 months to host each site.
We believe in only charging where we add value, and we have enough of that going on to cover our hosting costs which as you can see are minimal.
It’s pretty much the same model as Google with Gmail, and Facebook with business pages.

We’ve hand coded websites ourselves in the past, used other CMS systems including Joomla, but have settled on WordPress as our software of choice because:
– it’s arguably the best for small business websites
– it makes up about 25% of the entire internet and is really well supported by a huge community of developers
– it is free to use and therefore we can keep our production costs very low
– it has virtually every website feature known to man available as a plugin, and a lot of the time these are free
– Google really likes the code behind WordPress
– it can be zipped up, hosted, and then supported by virtually any reputable webhost
– it is pretty much future proofed because it’s now responsive and changes itself to suit whatever size screen is looking at it
– it has a user-friendly DIY dashboard and a huge online resource of tutorials
We are Mailchimp advocates as it’s one of the premier email marketing platforms in the world, and it’s free for up to 2,000 email addresses stored and 12,000 emails sent per month. It also has technology behind it that makes messages get through most firewalls and spam filters. It has many more marketing features too, and is really a great tool to be able to use for free. Here’s how we go about this:
– customise and brand an email template for you
– import all your existing email addresses in the database
– connect Mailchimp to your website so people can subscribe from there
– after discussing it with you we write the mailout and send it to you for comment
– when approved, we send it to selected recipients and provide you a report of who opened it, who didn’t, and even who clicked through to a website landing page we specifically put together for it
People are in a social mood when on Facebook but we can still grab their attention with a strong image or headline, and there’s a chance to get them follow a call to action. It’s a broad cross section of people so is a genuine advertising market of more than half the population. Here’s how it works:
– we work out a recommended budget and give you an estimate of what we hope to achieve for a click through rate to your site
– we create and manage campaigns to engage new people with geographic, age, gender and interests targeting
– we amplify your $ spend with enticements for people to like, comment or share our message and leverage the social aspect of Facebook
– we ring fence those who engage so we can tailor exclusive ads to them in future
– we report back on exactly what happened and provide ongoing recommendations for return on investment
– you need to respond to enquiries via your Facebook page using Messenger the same way you reply to emails
When people are searching in Google, they are looking for a solution to a problem. Adwords allows us to put whatever message we want right in front of them as a paid ad at the top, right, or bottom of page one of search results and link to whatever landing page or popup we have designed to bring you new business. Here’s how it works:
– Google charges us per click through to your site and the price varies depending on what your competitors are prepared to pay (a kind of auction)
– for example, a dry cleaner in Masterton might pay $0.50c a click, and a plumber in Auckland more like $5
– we work out a recommended monthly budget for you and estimate the number of leads we expect it to generate
– we do the creative for the ads, manage them, and report back on the results
– you can turn them on or off just by letting us know and any unspent budget from a given month will sit in your account until you ask us to switch the ads back on
We use SEMrush software which allows us to do the following:
– enter your web address with the search terms we would expect your site visitors to type into Google and it then tells us exactly where you rank (1-10 means you’re on page 1 of search, 11-20 on page 2 etc.,) for each search term
– it shows us competitors who rank higher than you and analyses why
– if you simplify Google right down, it’s about 2 things at the moment: content and backlinks
– these tools show us where content should be tweaked
– backlinks are links from other websites (like Yellow etc.,) and the software tells us what sites are linking to yours
– it also shows us the backlinks your competitors’ sites have
– it make suggestions of how we can improve your site, and provides a monthly report we send you showing progress
A well made website also needs well written content if Google is going to rank it, and here’s eleven of the things we address as part of our on-page SEO (search engine optimisation):
– page names should have some keywords in them
– the page titles and description (hidden behind the site) are what Google reads and publishes in the search results (the blue title you see in Google and the text description under that) – so we control that and make it eye catching and relevant – basically it’s a free ad
– Google also looks for keywords in the headlines on pages (called H1 headers)
– the other things we address are modifiers in pages titles; things to increase page engagement; sub-headings in H2 tags; the first 100 words of text per page; site responsiveness; outbound links; internal links; and page load speeds
– if we’re migrating an existing site that already does well in Google, we have measures we take to ensure that doesn’t change – and if there’s hidden things like backlinks provided by your existing webhost, we’ll spot those using our special tools and advise on the best way forward
Web-hosting means placing a site on a web server and having it stay live for visitors 24/7 and this is why we chose Siteground to be our production server supplier:

– we provide a Google Analytics login so you can see how many visitors you’re getting and where they’re coming from

We do the best we can get to you free (organic) site visitors, but if you’re in a competitive environment like a big city for instance, you may want to consider some of these options to give you an edge:
– SEMrush gives us special tools to know exactly where you rank across the different search terms you’d expect your customers to use, and then finds ways to improve your site against your competitors.
– If you signed up for an account with them it would cost you USD99 per month for the tools. We can create a project in our reseller system, charge you NZD149 a month, and do the actual work so what you get are reports.
– Apart from content, the other really big thing for Google is backlinks (links to your site from others like Yellow for instance). SEMrush measures what backlinks you have in place, looks at the ones your competitors have, and makes suggestions about new links for us to create.
– Google and Facebook ads can bring good traffic numbers of interested people to your site but for these channels, we like to run a trial and see what click though rate we can achieve (that’s how you pay – a cost per click) and then work out how to create you a measurable return on investment.
